Just about two weeks ago, Adobe has released another version of its advanced tool designed for creating professional eLearning content – Captivate 6. This new update includes many innovative features, which make Adobe product a top class program for most demanding learning experts.
Captivate enables its users to create sophisticated content designed for eLearning, such as interactive demonstrations, simulations or quizzes. It was designed especially with business users’ needs in mind, allowing them to create their desired projects in a quick and easy way, as well as instantly uploading them to the Web or mobile devices.
The program’s capabilities are enormous, but its usage is quite simple. In some ways it resembles making presentations in Microsoft Power Point, as it is based on filling successive slides with different elements. Projects created with different software, as previously mentioned Power Point, can also be imported. Users can also create and utilize their own video records, including recording desktop activities. The records may be also adjusted, however these capabilities are not very advanced. On the other hand, the screenshots can be modified in diversified ways, including visibility of mouse tracking and clicking.
The presentations may be enhanced with not only graphic and text, but also sound, including recorded instructor’s voice. The latter can be synchronized with subtitles. To enrich the presentation, the program also offers a wide selection of preloaded actors, as well as other widgets. Obviously videos may also be attached, including picture-in-picture format and instant cooperation with YouTube.
Coordination of all these elements on one slide is facilitated by a timeline, which enables easy adjustments between them. Some features may be activated by a user himself, for example by clicking on certain objects. The finished project may be saved in various popular formats and – what makes it so effective for mobile use – it can be also converted to HTML. Captivate 6 uses HTML5, which enables users to utilize its content on different platforms – for example a project loaded from a desktop may be paused and resumed on a mobile device.
Every content can be also enhanced with tests, which may not only evaluate learning process, but also check preknowledge of new users and, depending on the results, direct them to the section that is most appropriate for their level.
Moreover, Adobe has also announced development of an application that may be considered as Captivate’s follow-up: Course Companion is dedicated to monitor how the learners work with training ads. Their authors will be given information about time spent on each slide, interaction with its elements, as well as results of tests. It will be also possible to compare various versions of a project. All these features will allow better adjustment of the presentations for specific users.
All in all, the most sophisticated features of this new version of Captivate are not only its advanced capabilities concerning creation of the content, but also the possibility of adjustment for individual demands of each user. Here you can find Captivate 6 tutorials.
